'Journey through Himachal Pradesh - a quieter Himalayan story.'
The Aranmula Boat Festival, also known as Vallamkali, is among Kerala’s oldest river traditions — a ceremonial snake boat regatta held during the season of the Onam festival (August–September) in Aranmula. Set along the sacred Pampa River, this temple town has long been a pilgrimage centre and historic river trade hub. Graceful Palliyodams (snake boats) glide in pairs to the rhythmic chants of Vanchipattu, their oarsmen in white mundu rowing in perfect synchrony. Golden lace at the prow, fluttering flags, and ornamental umbrellas add ceremonial splendour to the spectacle.
Witness the vibrant Pulikali (tiger dance), where performers painted as tigers animate the streets in a burst of colour and folklore. Quiet interludes include spotting delicate water lilies along Kerala’s backwaters — moments of stillness contrasting the festival’s energy.
